MenACE training curricula and programme

A comprehensive training course and programme will be developed by MenACE partnership, divided in three key areas of learning:
  1. Mental healthcare and suicide prevention;
  2. Geriatrics;
  3. Palliative care in prison;
The training course will consist of comprehensive and structured course material that will cater for the current and future needs of prison staff in these fields of practice.
The target group will be prison management and frontline staff.
The curriculum will be formed as a structured set of weighted learning modules (in respect of ECVET) which can be combined flexibly in order to complement different initial competence profiles. The training course will be accompanied by a guide for active and future trainers, which will cover issues related to pedagogy, such as training methodology, assessment methods as well as practical recommendations for teaching. This guide will effectively support the partnership in the development and implementation of the training programme in the different project phases.
A modular training program for the active and future trainers will be developed according to the requirements of the MenACE training program and data collected from research.
Corresponding training material will be made available also.
The partnership will deliver 1 pilot course in each country.

E-learning (multimedia) training course

Led by IPS, the partnership will develop an e-learning course that will serve as a complement to the class session programme.
The e-learning content will be an adaptation of the contents of the class session training to e-learning. This output will imply developing the e-learning course, development of a prototype and final version of the e-learning course and translation to partner languages. The distance learning course will be developed so that it can be used also in a blended learning format. The e-learning training course will be piloted in prison context and fine-tuned after piloting feedback collection.

European roadmap with policy recommendations

The MenACE partnership will develop a European Roadmap for policy makers, judicial staff and other relevant stakeholders, with guidelines and recommendations on how to raise awareness about: (i) mental health issues in detention settings (with a special focus on suicide prevention); (ii) aging and related issues in detention settings (focusing on healthcare and social rehabilitation challenges); and (III) the terminally ill and palliative care within prisons (and the social, economic, health and moral and ethical implications).
The MenACE Roadmap has three different goals:
  • Contextualization of the problems identified within MenACE project;
  • Raising awareness about these issues among a broader community of practitioners and (especially judicial staff and other stakeholders of the criminal justice system) and policy makers;
  • Development of policy recommendations to accelerate health care in detention settings.
